Blue or Pink?

So I had my ultrasound yesterday... what an experience. I'm not a patient person and I've just been DYING to know what we're having, so I've been looking forward to this from day one. The chances were somewhat slim as they usually schedule the ultrasound between week 16 and 18 and I was just finishing my 15th week.

The ultrasound technician had just barely begun to run the (what the hell is it called? wand? mircophone?) thing over my belly and said, "oh, I see we're having a little boy!" I just froze. "Really?!" I said (I'd been hoping for a boy because he is to be named after my & my husband's favorite grandfathers, both of whom are William). "Yep," she said, "I'm pretty sure... look!" And there it was. He was cooperating fully. The picture is just of his butt, two little legs and there... in between... yep, a little proof of boyhood! Yay!!!! My husband and I just sat there smiling at eachother like fools. We'd done it! We'd had our boy. "You were hoping for a boy?" asked the technician. My husband answered that indeed we were as we had a boy's name ready but not a girl's name.

The rest of the ultrasound was just one of the most amazing experiences ever. I got to see his little face, hands, feet, fingers, toes, arms, spine, profile... everything. He was moving around like crazy and kicking a lot (thank god I can't feel that yet). His favorite position, though, was facing directly at us and waving one little hand as though he wanted to say "hello! I'm here!". I was on cloud nine for the rest of the day. I couldn't concentrate on work and just walked around with my ultrasound pictures and the biggest smile on my face.

It's a day later and I'm still just exhausted, excited and overwhelmed by it all. To see this fully formed little being just swimming around and making himself comfortable was an indescribable joy. My husband (the most adorable man ever) has already started talking to him and calling him by name. He put his head down next to my belly last night and said, "Good night William!" It was the coolest. I'm just bowled over. I hope I get to have at least one more before he's born because I'm already dying to see him again.

I called everyone I could think of to share the news. It was as exciting as when I first called them all to say I was pregnant. I was especially excited to call my mom and let her know a little one named after her father is on the way! I can't wait to let great-grandpa William hold little William someday. He's not even born and I'm already envisioning seeing those two Williams together! I'm one crazy mamma right now...
